Growing up, my family trips were … consistent. Each year, sometime in mid-August, we’d pile into the car and drive to the Adirondacks for a week at the Duncan family cottage on Lake George. It was a gorgeous place and packed with wonderful memories—but let’s just say the itinerary didn’t change much year-to-year.
By sophomore year of high school, I was officially ready for something new. That longing for adventure somehow gave me the courage to override my otherwise crippling shyness and sign up—along with two close friends—for a three-week exchange trip to France. Cool, right?
I loved it enough to study abroad during my junior year of college. I arrived in Paris with a Eurrail pass and absolutely zero intention of letting it go to waste. That pass worked hard.
Since then, travel has continued to weave itself into my life. My husband and I honeymooned in Ireland. We later lived in Belgium for two years (my second son was born there!). Our little family explored Europe as much as possible—with two young kids in tow. Later, when both boys were in middle and high school, we turned our attention to exploring the U.S. And let me just say: I am a big fan of a good spring break trip.
Because I never travel anywhere without a camera, you can imagine the number of photos I’ve collected over the years. Knowing I’m not alone in my wanderlust, I eventually decided to put some of those images to good use.
A few years ago, I added a couple of travel-themed note card sets to my Etsy shop; they featured photos from a family trip to Ireland in 2011. To my surprise (and delight), they quickly became some of my best sellers—holding their own against sets that had been around since day one.
Eventually those two initial sets morphed into a full section of travel-themed stationery—each one inspired by places that made me stop, stare, and take far too many photos.
Here’s what you’ll find in the travel section of my Etsy shop:
