Okay, can we talk about how basically every single day on the calendar has been claimed by some “National Something Day” at this point? Like, today — March 6 — is apparently both National Oreo Cookie Day AND National White Chocolate Cheesecake Day. Which, rude, because now I’m sitting here with zero Oreos and zero white chocolate cheesecake and a very specific kind of sadness.
I’m not here to drag National Oreo Cookie Day (never — Oreos are sacred). But some of these designated days do feel a little… random. However! There is one that makes my stationery-obsessed heart absolutely sing: National Card and Letter Writing Month. It’s in April, and honestly, it cannot get here fast enough.
The US Postal Service launched National Card and Letter Writing Month back in 2001 to encourage people to connect with others, nurture relationships, and preserve history through the lost art of letters and cards. (And yes, almost certainly to sell more stamps — I see you, USPS, and I respect the hustle.) But even my inner Cynical Cathy has to admit: any excuse to swap the frantic ping of digital messages for something slow, intentional, and written by actual human hands? I’m in. Hard in.
If you’re already a handwritten letter devotee, April is basically your Super Bowl. Your Coachella. Your personal holiday. I’d love to hear how you’re planning to celebrate — drop it in the comments!
If you’ve always wanted to be a letter writer but freeze up the second you uncap a pen, don’t worry — I’ve got you. Check out my post from last year: What Can You Say? Note Card Writing Prompts for When You’re Drawing a Blank. (Spoiler: you have more to say than you think.)
