A few weeks ago, the boys and I visited Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens. The Lotus & Water Lily Festival is this coming weekend, but the flowers were already blooming back in June when we visited! DC’s cherry blossoms are still at the top of my list, but Kenilworth definitely comes in a close second.
We've been trying for three years to catch a glimpse of the GIANT lily pads. I mean, they look very cool. This was THE year! We very carefully checked, double-checked and triple-checked the map to make sure we knew which pond they were in. But alas, as we approached, it was empty. Sad face. We didn't bother to check when they're meant to be in "bloom," but we can't be expected to check EVERYTHING! 2020 is THE year!.
The good news is, there was no shortage of lovely lotus flowers and water lilies to enjoy. I’ll be honest, though. I struggled a bit this visit. Don’t get me wrong, there WERE loads of blossoms and I took some decent photos. It just felt like they were all shot’s I’d taken before. I do have a solid collection of lotus photos from the past few years. Nothing compared to the masses of cherry blossoms photos I’ve accumulated over the years, but then, they had a couple decades’ head start.
I’d tried my previous go-to shots of blossoms from the side and from below … but again, they weren’t dramatically different than the ones I’d captured last year. I just hadn't found something totally new to try.
Then I lucked upon a gorgeous blossom right alongside the path and finally it clicked! (Pun intended).
Just a different perspective. Um, hello?? Not sure why it took me as long as it did during that visit. I even have a blog category devoted to my penchant for capturing different perspectives on things. Yeah, I realize this perspective isn’t necessarily new to the world, but it’s new to ME. So it counts!
Since I'm not the type to stop at just one (potato chips and cheese doodles are my biggest downfall), I snagged a whole bunch of shots of this same bloom and was able to put together a new gallery wall collage set for my Etsy shop.
Divine Lotus Gallery Wall Collage Print Set
I've featured lotus blossoms in my shop right from the beginning, but since this year's visit have beefed up the collection. In addition to the above, I've also recently added the following new listings:
Hot Pink Lotus Gallery Wall Collage Set
Woodland Lotus Print
I hope you’ll visit AnneCorcoranStudio on Etsy and check them all out! And stay tuned for my next “different perspectives” post!
PS> DMVers, if you've not been to Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens, YOU MUST GO!
